Little Silver’s Shane McCarthy Drafted by Cardinals

On June 14, for the first time ever, a Little Silver baseball player got the call to report to national baseball, as Shane McCarthy was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Shane had that “something special” right from the start. Many residents who watched him as he grew up playing baseball in Little Silver knew he was destined for great things. He played for the Little Silver Warriors at Markham Place School, the recreation baseball teams from kindergarten through eighth grade, and the travel baseball program in Little Silver called the “Jersey Shore Thunder.” He grew up on North Lovett, which is a two-minute walk to the ballfields. After middle school, Shane attended Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School and then Seton Hall University, where, last spring, he threw the school’s first ever perfect game. He is a tremendous baseball player, but an even better person. He dedicates his time to others, and volunteers for many organizations in the Little Silver area.

Shane has one more season of collegiate eligibility if he chooses to stay in college one more year. If he decides to pursue the major leagues, it will start this July in “Rookie Ball” with the Johnson City Cardinals. Shane McCarthy is the perfect role model for children aspiring to achieve their goals. He works hard and represents his friends, family, teammates, and community proudly. Congratulations, Shane on your well-deserved honor.
