Little Silver Garden Club Meets, Plans Spring Trip

Tonya Ashuck demonstrated creative design at last month’s Little Silver Garden Club meeting.

At its regular monthly meeting held on March 9, the Little Silver Garden Club watched a demonstration about creative design and made plans for a trip to renowned Meadowbrook Farm.

Tonya Ashuck, a certified judge of flower design, showed the process involved in constructing a creative design. Although creative design shares basic principles and elements common to traditional floral design, it is significantly different in several ways.   Generally, creative designs are larger and bolder than traditional designs. Creative designs also display strong contrast and strong, dominant lines that may contribute to an overall asymmetrical appearance. Ms. Ashuck then showed the process she used to create an exhibition table for the recent Garden Club of New Jersey Flower Show.

The club also announced plans for a trip to Meadowbrook Farm on Friday, May 19. Meadowbrook Farm features 25 wooded acres with 15 small gardens to explore, and the trip will also offer a private tour of the former owner’s home, with exquisite grounds and interiors. Meadowbrook Farm is affiliated with the Philadelphia Horticultural Society. The trip will include bus transportation from Little Silver, all tours and admissions, and a gourmet boxed lunch for a total cost of $95. Visitors and community members are welcome to attend. For questions or reservations, please contact Diane Primavera at (732) 643-8546.

The club’s next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, April 13 at the Woman’s Club on Rumson Road, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Visitors are always welcome!
