Hummus & Pita Comes to Bell Works

At Bell Works in Holmdel, Hummus & Pita will join other retail tenants.”Our food is accessible,” said Dave Pesso, owner, and founder of The Hummus & Pita Co. “It is the basics with authentic flavors and spices from the Mediterranean, stuff that people are used to.”

Pesso is excited about the Bell Works location. “I think that place is going to be phenomenal, I have never seen anything like it. New Jersey happens to be a very diverse state.  About 20 to 30 percent of Hummus & Pita customers are from New Jersey, and a lot of customers bring stuff back to New Jersey.”

Besides sit down and take out, the location also will be doing catering and delivery. The food is the same cooked by Pesso’s family for generations. “Now, pita and hummus are popular,” he said. “We feel as American as peanut butter and jelly and spaghetti and meatballs. Everyone has pita in their refrigerator.”

Founded in 2011, the restaurant features a made-from-scratch menu featuring freshly-baked pita and laffa bread, vegetarian dishes and meats cooked in a taboon oven. It includes falafel, gyro, Turkish meatballs, shawarma, chicken and steak as well as various types of hummus, sides like stuffed grape leaves and pastries.

“Customers come for the healthy options,” Pesso said. “It’s a lifestyle.”
