Howell PD Praise Alert Motorist for Avoiding a Potentially Fatal Crash

Howell Police Deer Accident

A 36 year old Howell resident avoided serious injury after a deer crashed through her front windshield on Rt. 9.

Earlier this morning , Howell resident Melissa Misthal was operating a 2004 Toyota RAV4 southbound on Rt.9 near Bergerville Road when a deer ran into the lanes of travel. Melissa attempted to avoid the deer however struck it while it was airborne. The force of the impact propelled the deer into the passenger compartment collapsing the front windshield and roof of the vehicle. The deer came to rest on the rear floor. It was deceased.

After the collision and despite the damage, her being injured and not knowing if the deer was still alive, Melissa had the composure of bringing her vehicle to a safe stop in the shoulder of the roadway. Melissa was treated at the scene for her minor injury.

Howell Police Deer accident 2018We praise the actions of Melissa. This had the potential of being deadly not only for her but for other motorists as well. She did everything right. Would you have done the same? Be an alert and prepared motorist!
