Holmdel Kiwanis Club Installs New Officers

Tom DiCanio was recently installed as the new president of the Holmdel Kiwanis Club.

The Holmdel Kiwanis Club had an installation of officers for the 2020-21 year at The Junction in Belford. The event was held outside on Oct. 7 and followed the rules for social distancing and face masks. The installation was led by Lt. Governor Jen Plaia. Installed as new club officers were President Tom DiCanio, President-elect Mike Mariolis, Board Chairman Ron DeLuca, Treasurer Ted LaBarca and Secretary Lenny Sasso.

This year, the club is celebrating 55 years of service to the community and to children both locally and internationally. It was noted that the club currently has five members serving on the New Jersey District 5 of Kiwanis: Governor Joey Giordano, Lt. Governor Jen Plaia, Key Club Chair Rob Acerra, PR Chair Sylvia Allen, and Sergeant-at-Arms Lenny Sasso. That is wonderful representation when you consider that there are 77 clubs within the district.

DeCanio said, “It is my goal to continue the good work of previous presidents and continue to grow the club and the services it offers.”

DeLuca, the outgoing president, was inducted into the Carrington-Swain Fellowship and received the Carrington-Swain Award, the highest award given in New Jersey. He spoke briefly, thanking the club for all their efforts during challenging times and for the honor of being their president.

The Holmdel Kiwanis is a group of like-minded citizens dedicated to changing their community by improving the lives of children and their families. The group works with a variety of nonprofits who share the same philosophy of serving. Membership in the Kiwanis Club is open to anyone in the community that is at least 18 years of age and has a passion for helping others through volunteering to serve. The Holmdel Kiwanis has been serving the community since 1965 and welcomes everyone to join them in a Zoom meeting to find ways they can participate. The Holmdel Kiwanis meets virtually every two weeks at 7 pm. To find future meetings, visit HolmdelKiwanis.org.
