Holmdel Historical Society Meetings

The Holmdel Historical Society (HHS), which researches, preserves, and interprets the history and architectural history of Holmdel, will host its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 11. The meeting will be held at the historic Dr. Cooke’s medical office, located on the corner of McCampbell and Middletown-Holmdel Roads, and will start at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Cooke’s office is the oldest surviving medical office in the United States. HHS is so sure of this fact, they are offering a $25 to reward to anyone who can prove otherwise!

The meeting held on June 13 at the Holmdel Community Center was a brainstorming meeting, discussing the many ways that the HHS could generate revenue to spruce up Dr. Cooke’s office and finish the restoration and renovation of the old St. Catharine’s Church on Stillwell Road. In a no-holds-barred meeting, ideas such as wine festivals, craft fairs, flea markets, antique and classic car shows, a taste of Holmdel event, even a Senior Speed-dating activity were bandied about. No idea was rejected!

Holmdel is one of the oldest sites of European settlement in the Garden State, with many of its properties dating back to the 1600s. To make a donation or join the Holmdel Historical Society as a member, annual dues are $25 and can be paid in person or by contacting HHS president Peter Manieri or treasurer Rhonda Beck by calling (732) 768-7583 or (732) 685-4450, or by email at
