Last year, the Holmdel girls’ soccer team went 19-1-1. The squad also claimed the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 2 State Sectional title and the NJSIAA Group 2 State title. It will be difficult to duplicate that level of success this season. However, the Hornets have taken the initial steps in that direction by winning their first two games of the season.
Holmdel launched its 2022 campaign on the road against Monmouth Regional on Sept. 8 and came away with a 4-1 victory.
Sophomore midfielder Brielle McClarnon led the team in scoring with a pair of goals. Midfielder Sophia Laudi and TCNJ commit Taylor Bielan scored as well.
Abigail Hinds and Lily Reardon were credited with assists. First-year goalkeeper Moyosola Adeyeri pulled in four saves in her varsity debut.
Two days later, the Hornets hosted Freehold Borough in their home opener. The results were similar to the Monmouth game as Holmdel won by a 5-1 tally.
This was a breakout game for sophomore forward Lily Reardon, who netted three goals and contributed one assist. Taylor Bielan scored the other two goals. They were career goals 34 and 35 for the senior.
McClarnon, Laudi and Kayla Bielan were each credited with an assist. Goalie Adeyeri added six saves to her resume.
This is a young squad; there are only two seniors on the roster. Given their youth, these wins early in the season should be encouraging for first-year Head Coach Brianna Brennan.
