Holmdel Girls Soccer Extends Winning Streak

In 2020, the Holmdel girls’ soccer team enjoyed a perfect season, posting a 15-0 undefeated record. The Hornets have begun their fall campaign, extending the win streak to 18 with three victories, outscoring opponents by a 15-1 margin.

Holmdel opened with a 5-0 road win over St. Rose on Sept. 7. Senior forward Katie Vassilakos led the squad with a hat trick. Izabella DeMatos and Lily Reardon both contributed a goal and an assist. Junior forward Taylor Bielan posted a pair of assists.

Two days later, Monmouth Regional fell victim in the home opener by an identical 5-0 tally. Vassilakos once again paced the unit with two goals. Julianna Kolbasovsky and Bielan each pitched in a goal and assist. Sophomore Felicia Arena experienced the thrill of netting her first ever varsity goal. DeMatos and Reardon both recorded an assist.

On Sept. 11, Holmdel hosted Middletown High School North and dispatched the Lions by a 5-1 final. Taylor Bielan led the offense with two goals and two assists. Vassilakos scored her second goal of the game with just 27 seconds on the clock. Midfielder Julianna Kolbasovsky also found the net, and senior Mia Giamanco supported the cause with a pair of assists. Four year senior goalie Hailey Sharpe anchored the defense with four saves.
