“Greet the Teachers” at Sickles School

September 7 marked a happy start to the school year at Viola L. Sickles School at the first-of-its-kind “Greet the Teachers” event. “Greet the Teachers” began at 8:00 a.m. on the McCarter Park Field across from Sickles School (and on the school grounds for kindergarten students). The teaching staff, along with Principal Cheryl Cuddihy and Superintendent Sean McNeil, all attended, and teachers and their assigned students became acquainted in a festive and reassuring atmosphere. After the students and teachers had gotten to know one another, Sickles School vocal music teacher Vince Mottern, dressed in an RFH band uniform complete with plumed hat, led the students in first through third grade and their teachers toward the school building, where they began their first day of the school year.

A second grader asked Mr. Mottern how he, too, could “get a hat like the one you are wearing.” “Well, by joining the RFH marching band!” Mr. Mottern answered, referring to the excellent music program at nearby Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School. Anything is possible when you start the school year off on the right foot.
