‘Grease’ Staged at Middletown High School South

By Les Pierce

The Southside Theatre of Middletown High School South staged “Grease” as its spring musical. The show opened on April 7, with additional performances on April 8 and 9. All three productions were completely sold out.

The MHSS company took the audience for an entertaining ride back to the fall of 1958. The showings were uplifted by exquisite vocals and well-choreographed and executed dance numbers.

The lead characters of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson were played by Vincent Dorozynski and Caroline Garrett. Cast members in key roles were Isabel Postelnek (Rizzo), Joseph DeMarco (Kenickie), Stephen Russo (Doody/Teen Angel), Anthony DeMarco (Sonny), Nim Boudreau (Frenchie), Ava Presley Romano (Jan), Sean Ennis (Vince Fontaine), Juliette Dehanes (Miss Lynch), Amelia Shafer (Cha Cha), Kai Macedo (Roger), Luke McCann (Eugene), Colin Williams (Johnny Casino) and Julia Vultaggio (Patty).

Appearing in the ensemble cast were Sophia Caccamo, Emma Campbell, Vincent Chiusano, Leia Dichiara, Taryn Gonzales, Alexa Guarini, Ethan Liranzo, Elena MacDonald, Neave Parry, Sophia Russell and Lia Silverstein.

Jacqueline Fischer served as choreographer, assisted by Bri Mason. Costumes were created by Fischer and Laura Mazza. Also supporting the production were Emily Kaiser (vocal music director), Michael Raguseo (pit musical director) and stage managers Annalise Aponte, Ryan Linder and Charlotte Parauda.

Basie-winning Director Alexis Kozak delivered yet another highly entertaining vehicle on the Southside Theatre stage. The cast appeared eager to entertain and delivered on that notion. The audience confirmed their appreciation of the performance with spontaneous applause after every number.
