Gov. Phil Murphy Personally Praises Young Pond Rescue Heroes

This week, Gov. Phil Murphy praised the five heroic teens who saved two siblings from a frozen pond at Beacon Hill Country Club last Thursday. Kiernan Foley, Ryan Day, Drew Scalice, Joseph Dietrich and Tyler Armagan are all freshmen at Middletown High School North.

The five boys, who have made national news, are receiving endless praise for their courageous act.

After 8-year-old Olivia Heid and her 4-year-old brother, RJ, slipped into a frozen lake during their first time sledding on Dec. 17, the five boys created a human chain to save the children from hypothermia and drowning.

“You’re heroes, man!” Murphy stated in congratulations to the boys via phone call. He congratulated the five teens with praise, “On behalf of your nine-million-member New Jersey family, I salute you and nothing but respect.”

This was the feel-good story everyone needed to hear during such trying times.
