Girl Scouts Honor Women of Distinction and Community Partners

By Lori Draz

Nearly 250 people joined the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore (GSJS) on April 27 to celebrate inspiring community leaders at the Women of Distinction and Community Partners Gala.

The annual event raised more than $140,000 to provide leadership experiences to nearly 11,000 Girl Scouts across Monmouth and Ocean counties, regardless of ability to pay.

Eagle Oaks Country Club was transformed into a camp wonderland complete with canoes, tree stumps, lanterns and archery targets. The evening also included a 110th birthday cake as well as rare historical memorabilia on display for guests.

Heather Coburn, GSJS interim CEO, told guests, “The last two summers at camp were so important for girls who have been stuck indoors. The girls got to enjoy fresh air, unplug from technology and be with friends.”

The GSJS proudly recognized outstanding community leaders for their character, community service, and dedication to fostering self-confidence and leadership skills in others. Honorees at the 2022 gala included: The Women of Distinction – Heather Barberi of the Grunin Foundation; Tasha Youngblood Brown of Ernst & Young, LLP; Dr. Antoinette Clay of Ocean County College; Martha Delehanty of Commvault and Jacqueline K. Shea of New Jersey Resources. The Community Partner title went to L&L Paving Co. Inc. and Frank (Sandy) McIntyre, and the Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout Honor went to Benjamin L. Waldron of the Monmouth-Ocean Development Council. Full biographies for all honorees can be found at
