Calling all filmmakers, actors, musicians, composers and screenwriters. The 22nd annual Garden State Film Festival (GSFF) is open until Wednesday, Nov. 1 for the submissions of your films, screenplays, music and projects. Each submission will be screened by a panel of industry professionals, and selected submissions will be presented at the festival, being held March 21 to 24, 2024 in Asbury Park and Cranford.
The prestigious GSFF has been showcased in international media outlets such as Variety, Vogue Global Network/Condé Nast, People Magazine, Deadline, IndieWire, News Entertainment and others.
There is a wide variety of categories for submissions including composed music, screenplays, documentaries, animation, children’s, narrative, trailers, web series/new media and short films, as well as music videos, commercials, trailers, TV pilots, student projects and more.
A favorite GSFF category is the “Home Grown” submissions, open to projects where 75 percent or more of the project has been shot in New Jersey. Additionally, there is also a competition with prizes sponsored by the University of the Arts.
The GSFF is a major resource for all things film-related in New Jersey and has a robust education program. Learn about this and the “New Jersey Hometown Documentary Short,” which is open to New Jersey high school and younger grade students who produce films of five minutes or less that focus on interesting persons, places, time periods or unique aspects of their hometown related to the arts. Entries may be submitted directly by students or through their schools through Jan. 8, 2024. The top submissions will be eligible to screen at the New Jersey School Boards Workshop in October in Atlantic City. Submission may also scree at the GSFF, which will showcase more than 200 films and videos, before an audience of an estimated 25,000 in person and virtual film fans and industry professionals during its four-day run.
The Garden State Film Festival is a global event that has launched many careers while still maintaining its warm, supportive energy for all levels of artists.
