February at the Oceanic Library

By Lori Draz

February is packed with great reasons to get to the library. Research Black History Month, learn about the presidents and American history, craft a love sonnet for Valentine’s Day, or just enjoy the winter with a great book.

The Oceanic Library’s programs for all ages continue, along with many very entertaining Totally Awesome Tuesdays for grades K and up. All programs are held at 3:45 p.m. Registration is mandatory and parents must remain in library. Come on out and join in the fun.

On February 23, it’s time again for the return of the Oceanic Free Library’s Soda Bread Contest and Irish Heritage Night. Former winners and new entrants will compete. Other activities at this very popular event include how to make the perfect hot toddy, along with Irish step dancers and bagpipers. This event is a crowd favorite and is the kick-off for the festivities of the Rumson St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Registration opens on February 10. A $25 donation is required to enter the contest. The owner and staff of Cups & Cakes in Rumson will award trophies to the first, second, third, and honorable mention winners. First place winner will have a place in the Rumson St. Patrick’s Day parade! Entry fee for baking contest is a $20 donation. Don’t miss this fun night and get your best soda bread recipe ready for the big day. Please call (732) 842-2692 or stop by the library to register.
