Fatal Overnight Fire Reported in Colts Neck

A second-alarm fire erupted in Colts Neck overnight earlier this week, the Asbury Park Press first reported.

A home on Raven Road erupted in flames around 2 am Tuesday, with initial reports claiming there was a fatality inside the structure. Multiple crews rushed to the scene overnight. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, which is leading the investigation into the matter, did not initially comment on this report.

On Wednesday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the fatality and identified the victim as 76-year-old Joseph Apisa. According to police, Apisa’s wife was also present in the home and able to escape during the fire, but he remained trapped inside his bedroom. She was treated for smoke inhalation while his body was recovered after the flames were extinguished.
