Events at Congregation B’nai Israel of Rumson

By Lori Draz

Congregation B’nai Israel (CBI) wishes everyone a November full of gratitude, fun and fellowship. CBI has a full lineup of lectures beginning this fall on Sundays at 11:30 am. Most are being offered both in person and on Zoom (exception noted below). To attend in person, proof of vaccination is required for age 12 and older, and masks are required for all. Registration is required, and links to register can be found at CBIRumson.org at the individual event pages. These lectures are free to attend and are sponsored by the Congregation B’nai Israel Cultural Programming Committee. Donations are greatly appreciated. Check out the full lecture calendar at CBIRumson.org. On Nov. 21: Sandy Gordon hosts “Jewish Artists in the Holocaust.” On Dec. 5, Dan Rozett, manager of Community Relations and Israel Engagement for Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey, will be in dialogue with Rabbi Doug Sagal about Israel.

All adults are invited to join the CBI community each month for First Fridays Shabbat with wine and cheese (weather allowing) at 6 pm followed by services at 6:30 pm. Celebrate everyone with a birthday that month.

Rabbi Sagal and Guest Cantor Rebecca Garfein welcome everyone to join in their new intergenerational service called “Shabbat b’Yachad” – Together: A Multigenerational Service for All Ages, which will be held on the fourth Friday of the month at 6 pm. This service will be less than an hour and will be filled with music, song, story, joyful prayer and dancing at your seat!

On Sunday, Nov. 21, CBI will be holding a joint interfaith Thanksgiving service with Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven (time TBD).

On Saturday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 7 pm, it’s all out fun and festivities at ChanukahPalooza. Check CBI’s website for updated details.
