As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, make the most of your winter and check out Monmouth County’s many seasonal attractions. There is no better way to celebrate the holidays than connecting with the community and spending time with friends and family. Don’t let the cold keep you cooped up inside the house – come out and have fun!

Ice at the Pier

Whether you’re a beginner skater or a seasoned pro, head to Pier Village’s outdoor skating rink. Just because the weather is colder doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy everything the Jersey Shore has to offer. Every Thursday through Sunday until President’s Day, bring your friends and family to Pier Village for ice skating, shopping and fine dining. Check out to see the full schedule and to purchase tickets.

Visit Santa!

Until Tuesday, Dec. 24, head to Monmouth Mall for some “post-worthy pics with Santa” at the JCPenney Court. These photos will memorialize the holiday season and highlight a special family moment. Even better, you can beat the line by reserving your place with FastPass. Visit for more information.

On Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 from noon to 3 pm, Longstreet Farm will be offering an old-fashioned, Victorian-style Christmas with seasonal treats and a special visit from Santa.

Ice Sailing

Bundle up and claim a bench to watch boats glide along the ice of the Navesink River. Many vessels are launched by the Monmouth Boat Club while others entertain viewers, courtesy of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club.

If there is snow and conditions are safe, Holmdel Park is the perfect place to go sledding. This exhilarating activity is a great way to bring families together while simultaneously having fun. Call 732-946-9562 for current sledding conditions.

Skiing and Snowshoeing

Interested in learning a new skill this winter? From Sunday, Dec. 15 through Sunday, March 15, head to Thompson Park’s groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Snowshoes are $15 and ski equipment is $20 for adults and $15 for children 8 and under. Call 732-842-4000, ext. 4312 for more information.

Ice Fishing

Take a break from the frenzy of the holidays by unwinding on a quiet frozen lake. Head to Manasquan River, Thompson Park or Turkey Swamp Park to participate in ice-fishing! Not only is this a relaxing and enjoyable winter activity, it is also a great new skill to learn.

Wondrous Winter Walk

Explore the beauty of wintertime by tagging along with a Park System Naturalist on a nature trail. Check out the unique winter walk in Manasquan Reservoir on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 10 to 11:30 am. For other tour dates and additional information, visit
