The Monmouth County Park System, created in 1960 by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, is Monmouth County’s Open Space, Parks and Recreation agency. Here’s what is happening in June:



Nature Lecture Series: Sharks and Shark Bites

Thursday, June 21 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Bayshore Waterfront Park Activity Center, Port Monmouth

Park System Naturalist will discuss the history and ecology of local sharks, as well as why they are important to protect. FREE!

19th Century Woodworking Demonstration

Saturday, June 23 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Historic Longstreet Farm, Holmdel

See how 19th century woodworking tools were used to create various items. FREE!

Felting Demonstration

Saturday, June 23 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Historic Longstreet Farm, Holmdel

Learn about the process of felting wool and how it was used in garments. FREE!

The Roots of Root Beer

Sunday, June 24 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Historic Walnford, Upper Freehold

Sample a dozen different root beers while learning about entrepreneur Charles Hires and his wife, Emma Waln. FREE!

Seining Along Sandy Hook Bay

Monday, Wednesday & Friday, June 25, 27 & 29 from 11 a.m. to noon

Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth

Discover a variety of fish, crabs, and other sea creatures as we pull a seine net through the calm waters of Sandy Hook Bay. Closed-toe shoes are required. Meet on the beach near the park entrance. Parents or guardians are required to stay with and supervise their children. No swimming during the event. Weather permitting. FREE!

The Casual Birder

Thursday, June 28 at 9 a.m.

Weltz Park, Oakhurst – Meet in the West Park Avenue parking area.

Join a Park System Naturalist for this laid-back morning bird walk. No need to be an expert at identifying birds to enjoy this walk. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow if needed. Open to ages 11 and up; under 16 with adult. FREE!

Daylily Day

Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown

The Monmouth County Park System and Garden State Daylily Growers present Daylily Day. See daylily displays and enjoy our large selection of daylilies on the grounds. Experts will be on hand to answer questions. Admission and parking are free.

Crochet/Lacemaking Demonstration

Saturday, June 30 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Historic Longstreet Farm, Holmdel

See Dorothy Gratton demonstrate the art of crochet and lacemaking from the Victorian era. FREE!
