Ellen DeGeneres Surprises Red Bank Family… Twice!

When News 12 told the story of a Red Bank family with three children, who all share the same Nov. 30 birthday, no one could have predicted what would come next. Having only been exposed to the interview setting by watching The Ellen DeGeneres daytime talk show, the children repeatedly asked when they would meet Ellen DeGeneres. The reporter laughed it off, and the cameras eventually turned off. But the show didn’t end there.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show learned about this special family, and couldn’t help but want to meet them.

The Lopez family, of Red Bank, got the surprise of its life on Jan. 20 when DeGeneres’ receptionist showed up on their doorstep with cameras. Janette and Raul Lopez, and their three children, Josevic, Serali and Leomar, who have been sharing a one-bedroom in Janette’s parents’ home due to hard times, were brought to tears when they were greeted with the surprise of Ellen’s 12 Days Of Christmas Giveaway. Not just one gift, but all 12 gifts were given to Lopez family. They were gifted vacations, TVs, a $2,500 Amazon gift card and so much more.

DeGeneres was also thoroughly impressed with the eldest Lopez son’s own generosity. Josevic explained that he has been saving his money all year to save the gorillas and to have the ability to donate to the Wildlife Fund. His fundraising began as a lemonade stand at his father’s soccer games, and the funds grew from there. That’s where DeGeneres’ second surprise began. The Lopez family was invited back to the Ellen studios and was presented with a $50,000 gift from the talk show host and GreenDot Bank. GreenDot works to help families save for their futures.
