Dance Plus Performs in Neptune

By Lori Draz

Dance Plus Little Silver

For over 30 years, Dance Plus of Little Silver been a highly awarded dance studio for both children and adults. Dance Plus embraces the philosophy that dance can teach, entertain, and even heal.

The dance studio also has a rich history of giving back to the community. On Aug. 10, the Persson Dance Ensemble presented its debut performance of “Never Again” at the Bailar al Sol Dance Festival, held at the Michael T. Lake Performing Arts Center in Neptune.

Since the deadly 1999 Columbine High School shooting, more than 214,000 students have experienced gun violence. The dance was inspired by these tragedies and choreographed by Joede Persson, Owner/Artistic Director of Dance Plus of Little Silver, to educate and heal.

Each of the dancers, ranging in age from 11 to 17, researched victims of school gun violence and used the knowledge they gained as an emotional connection to movement while performing the choreography. Their dedicated immersion in the process and their respectful commitment to the topic formed a silent prayer to those who lost their lives.
