Crochet and Knit for a Cause

The month of December was extremely busy for the members of the “Crochet and Knit for a Cause” group at the Hazlet Public Library, as they diligently worked on completing blankets, hats, lapghans, and scarves for the veterans at Vineland Hospital, the United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Monmouth Medical Center, and The Journal’s “Net Makes a Difference” project for 180 Turning Lives Around.

Mrs. Evelyn Aker of Shrewsbury was “Santa’s helper” and made several trips to Monmouth Medical Center and The Journal office with the group’s donations. A special thank you goes to Mrs. Aker for all her help and support!

The women celebrated the holiday season with a potluck luncheon on December 1. Afterwards, they spent time sorting and organizing a huge donation of yarn, patterns, and supplies that they had received from a very generous resident of Middletown. The yarn will be used to produce more hats and blankets for women and children in the Oncology Units at Monmouth Medical Center.

The group, organized by Pat Koziol of Holmdel, will continue to meet at 1:00 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Hazlet Library throughout 2017. Donations of new, unused yarn are always appreciated. For additional information, kindly contact the library, located at 251 Middle Road, Hazlet. Call (732) 264-7164 or visit
