Colts Neck’s Dr. Garibay Named Monmouth County Superintendent of the Year

The Colts Neck Township Board of Education recently announced that Dr. MaryJane Garibay, Colts Neck Township superintendent of schools, has been selected as the 2022 Monmouth County Superintendent of the Year. Annually, superintendents from each of the 57 school districts in Monmouth County nominate superintendents who embody the spirit of school leadership. This year, Garibay was recognized by her colleagues as a respected educational leader who is wholeheartedly committed to serving students, parents, teachers, staff and community. She was awarded this distinction at the Monmouth County Superintendents’ Roundtable on April 29.

As the 2022 Monmouth County Superintendent of the Year, Garibay will now apply to represent Monmouth County for the State’s Regional Superintendent Award recognition program.

Garibay is the treasurer of the Monmouth County Superintendents’ Roundtable and leads this group’s Women in Educational Leadership Steering Committee. In March, she and the members of the Monmouth County Women in Educational Leadership Steering Committee planned and facilitated a Women in Educational Leadership symposium where approximately 130 women came together to discuss their respective roles, challenges and experiences in educational leadership. In addition, Garibay is an active member of the Monmouth County Schools Partnership for Wellness Committee, another subcommittee of the Monmouth County Superintendents’ Roundtable, which, in February, hosted the School Leader Symposium on Mental Health & Wellness.

In addition to her leadership presence in Monmouth County, Garibay holds a leadership position at the state level as the New Jersey Association of School Administrators Women in Educational Leadership co-chair, a position she shares with Dr. Evelyn Mamman, assistant superintendent of Tenafly Schools.

Garibay became superintendent of schools in Colts Neck on July 1, 2015. Prior to this, she served as the district’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction from 2013 to 2015. Starting her career as a teacher of English in September 1996 at Brick Township Memorial High School, Garibay has been a public educator for more than 25 years in the state of New Jersey.
