Christ Church to Break Ground on New Columbarium

By Lori Draz

Historic Christ Church of Shrewsbury’s Mother Lisa Mitchell, the Warden and Vestry along with the Graveyard Committee announced they have partnered with Creter Vault Corporation to construct a new columbarium in a beautiful tree-shaded spot in southwest section of the grounds of this 300-year-old graveyard. Creter Vault Corporation has more than 100 years of experience creating burial monuments

A columbarium is a sacred space, a respectful final resting place for cremated remains of loved ones. The new columbarium structures will each have 56 niches. Each niche can hold the cremains of two persons. The individual granite niches will be inscribed with the name, birth date, and death date of the individual or individuals inurned there.

While the columbarium is being constructed primarily with the needs of the Christ Church family in mind, members of the larger community may also be inured here. Β

The project will break ground in October, and construction is projected to last two to four weeks with no interruptions to parking or regular church services or events. Β
