Celebrate July Fourth in Shrewsbury

By Lori Draz

Shrewsbury welcomes to celebrate the Fourth of July in a special way. On Sunday, July 3 at 10 am, the Presbyterian Church, Christ Church and the Quaker Meeting Association will hold a non-denominational prayer and worship service for Independence Day. The event will be held outdoors on the lawn in front of the Presbyterian Church. Following the worship all are invited to a big holiday cook-out with fun and fellowship.

Then on Monday, July 4, celebrate the true spirit of the Independence Day at the Fourth of July ceremony to be held at 10 am at the Allen House Tavern Museum at the historic four corners intersection of Broad Street and Sycamore Avenue in Shrewsbury. The much-loved event, put on by the Monmouth County Historical Association, is a unique and important way to start your holiday. On that morning, following the color guard and the ceremonial ringing of the bells of Christ Church, community members and the audience read together the Declaration of Independence. This family-friendly, free event also includes tours of the Allen House and Christ Church always draws a large friendly crowd with limited seating so bring a lawn chair. Parking is available at the Shrewsbury Municipal Complex.

Be a part of this tradition and remember the roots of the Independence we are celebrating this Fourth of July.
