Bystanders Lift Vehicle off Bicyclist Hit on Route 35

A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle last week on Route 35 and was pinned beneath the car, the Neptune Township Police Department announced today.

The victim was almost completely trapped under the vehicle, unable to move. Police rushed to the scene and tried moving the vehicle without further injuring the victim.

“Upon seeing them trying to move the vehicle, over a dozen bystanders spilled out of nearby stores and jumped out of their vehicles, running up to assist our officers,” the department said.

The group of people was able to collectively lift the weight of the SUV and free the person trapped beneath. EMTs arrived on scene and transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital where the victim received treatment and was later released.

“Given the chaotic scene, we weren’t able to get the names of all those who assisted, but we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize their efforts,” Neptune police said. “In these confusing times, it is great to be reminded that extraordinary things can be accomplished when we all work together to achieve a common goal.”
