Brookdale’s Chhange to Host Zoom Virtual Discussions this April

Chhange, the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights and Genocide Education located at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, invites all to hear to its second Virtual Lunch and Learn discussion on Wednesday, April 8 at 11:30 am.

“Personal Survivor History: Helena Flaum” will introduce you to local Holocaust survivors. Flaum was a hidden child during the Holocaust, and while she survived to emigrate to the United States and rebuild her life, her family was murdered at Belzec Death Camp. Learn more about her life before, during and after the Holocaust, and see how you can share her testimony with your students, family and friends.

Chhange’s Administrative and Exhibit Coordinator Ally Evans will lead this Lunch & Learn Discussion on Flaum’s history. This is a great opportunity for educators to learn more about Chhange’s Survivor Curriculum Suitcase program and explore the Personal Histories website as a virtual learning tool for your students. Community members can also learn more about a Holocaust survivor from the community.

Those interested are also invited to register for the Wednesday, April 15 discussion. “Personal Survivor History: Dr. Khachig Boghosian” will introduce you to one of the Armenian Genocide survivors featured in the exhibit “Journeys Beyond Genocide: The Human Experience.” Boghosian was an established psychiatrist with a thriving practice in Europe when he left everything to be with his family at the start of the genocide in 1915. Although he survived, he had to rebuild his life in Aleppo and he never saw his five younger sisters or father again. Learn more about Boghosian’s life before, during and after the genocide.

Registrants for this free webinar will also be able to beta-test the center’s new educational resource, “Armenian Genocide Survivor Scrapbook: Dr. Khachig Boghosian.” A PDF version of this scrapbook will be emailed to participants at the end of the webinar, along with a survey about how they plan to implement this resource as part of their lesson plans.

Preregistration for both programs is required for Zoom URL. One hour of professional development is provided. To learn more, email
