Bomb Threat Posed at Colts Neck Naval Base, Shelter in Place Lifted

On June 17 at approximately 5:20 pm, a female driver approached the mainside gate of Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, stating that she had a bomb in her car.
Security immediately secured the area and a Shelter in Place order was issued at that section of the base.
The female’s vehicle, a 2019 Gray Nissan Altima, remained on the installation as part of the investigation.
“The driver has been barred from the installation for previous attempts to enter the base, and today was being issued a citation for another attempt,” a post on the base’s social media read.
Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 12, Detachment Earle responded to the incident and rendered the area safe, determining no explosive device was present.
“I want to commend the rapid response and professionalism of my Navy Security, Naval Fire and Emergency Services, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Navy Emergency Management, NCIS, FBI, and the Colts Neck Police Department,” said Capt. Ed Callahan, NWS Earle commanding officer. “Because of the outstanding efforts of this entire team, we were able to keep our on and off-base community safe while responding to this threat.”
