Bodymotion in Ocean Township

Bodymotion is a family-owned, state-of-the-art automobile repair shop in Ocean Township. It was founded in 1983 by current owners Margaret and Michael Bavaro, Colts Neck residents since 1975.

In the 1970s, Mike managed the local Porsche dealership. “It was near impossible to find a body or paint shop to repair our customers cars to Porsche’s or Audi’s or my standards,” he said. The Bavaros treated their customers’ and friends’ cars like their own.

“I think that is what caught on – people just gave me their car and said, ‘Please make it right!’” Mike said. “I was tired of trying to find an automotive business I could trust, starting with a new car dealer, then an oil change shop, then a tire shop, then a body shop, then a battery and accessory store and so on.”

The inspiration for creating Bodymotion’s complete service concept was to “find one place you trust, and let them care for your car or truck, import or domestic. That way you concentrate on running your business or your family, and let us take care of your car,” Margaret said.

In the beginning, there were “hundreds of setbacks, from local zoning ordinances, to insurance companies wanting you to repair cars their way ‘cheap and fast’,” Mike recalled. “We work with all insurance companies but will not proceed without an agreement to do repairs the right way for the correct price. We prioritize the customer over the insurance company.”

Bodymotion’s customers are “educated and informed, very particular and exacting auto enthusiasts,” Mike said. “They are looking for quality service and repair.”

Every January, the Bodymotion race team heads for Daytona for the official racing season. In early spring into the summer months, owners of sports cars and convertibles come out in full force – that’s Bodymotion’s busiest time of year.

Bodymotion has many loyal customers because “we listen a lot,” Margaret said. “People know their cars and trucks and know what they want.”

A wide range of specialties are offered, including mechanical maintenance in or out of warranty, brakes, suspensions, alignments, tires, engine and transmission repair and overhaul.

Bodymotion is licensed to repair collision-damaged vehicles; diagnose and repair vehicle emission systems; diagnose, repair and refill vehicle air conditioners; provide NJ auto inspections and windshield stickers; weld all types of metal and plastic; and sell motor vehicles and license them.

The skilled staff also does performance upgrades and cosmetic enhancements. The shop handles full auto body and refinishing, frame repair, paintless dent repair, interior and exterior detailing, and aluminum vehicle repair. Mike proudly notes that Bodymotion is a Porsche-approved collision center.

Among the most popular services are personalizing vehicles with performance or appearance upgrades. “We also replace convertible tops, seat covers and carpets, and do all glass and windshield repairs and replacements in our shop – not your backyard or business parking lot,” Mike said.

“Our shop also has fabrication and competition departments and builds complete race cars, transports them, and offers trackside support and race car service for all makes and models,” he said.

In 2016, Bodymotion’s race team won the first professional race for Porsche A.G. in the world with its Porsche Cayman GT4 CS at Daytona International Speedway. The team won more IMSA races over the next two years.

Bavaro is a member of the Colts Neck Business Association. Bodymotion is active in the community, participating in local high school business development programs, hosting student career days, and giving shop tours and educational talks to Boy Scout troops.

Bavaro offers three tips for purchasing a quality pre-owned vehicle.

• Ask the seller questions, such as why they are selling the vehicle, and what is the vehicle’s history. Use a service like Car Fax, a report that traces the vehicle’s VIN number and identifies any anomalies.

• Take a road test, to make sure it’s the right vehicle for you.

• Don’t pass on a vehicle just because it has been repaired, or the miles are high. Get a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) to make sure the vehicle is in good, safe condition. The PPI is a good investment that may help you avoid a costly mistake – or help you purchase the car of your dreams.
