Bayshore Hooks and Needles Celebrate

Left to right: Sue Meyer and Olga Carr with lapghan that will be donated to Monmouth Medical Center in memory of Lily Yu
Members of the Bayshore Hooks and Needles group recently celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a Pot Luck luncheon at the Hazlet Library. Pat Koziol founder and leader of the group presented the women with crocheted shamrock pins that she created. Sue Meyer prepared delicious corned beef sandwiches for all and also led the group in a sweepstakes game. Other members of the group donated salads, desserts, coffee, tea and soft drinks.
The group continues to make shawls for Meridian Hospice, blankets, hats and cardiology pillow covers for Monmouth Medical Center, lapghans for the veterans, scarves, hats, blankets and soap sacks for United Way of Monmouth and Ocean County.
The group lost a member in the fall when Lily Yu suddenly passed away. Lily’s family donated all of the yarn that Lily had in her home to the group. Olga Carr, one of the three original members of the group, received the yarn from the family and Sue Meyer created a beautiful “scraps lapghan” that will be donated to Monmouth Medical Center in Lily’s name.
The group recently received donations of beautiful new yarn from an anonymous donor. The yarn will be used to make hats and blankets for newborn preemie babies at Monmouth Medical Center.
The group welcomes new members and meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at the Hazlet Library, 251 Middle Road from 1 pm to 3 pm. Donations of new, unused yarn is always appreciated. For additional information, contact Diana Zambrano, Branch Manager of the Hazlet Library at (732) 2647164.
