AAUW Used Book Sale Opens for 50th Season

When the AAUW Northern Monmouth County Branch Used Book Sale reopens on September 8, it will mark the 50th anniversary of a much-loved community service. For 50 years, the AAUW Book Sale has provided Monmouth County residents with high quality used books at very reasonable prices. The golden anniversary season will open with a preview event on Friday, September 8 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Old First Church, 69 Kings Highway in Middletown. Regular Saturday hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., begin on September 9 and run through the last Saturday in June 2018 (excluding major holidays). There is a $5 admission for Preview Night and your ticket will get you a first look at all the new additions that were collected over the summer. There is no admission fee for the regular Saturday hours.

Used Book Sale chair Viki Mischenko happily reports that there are used books in good to excellent condition for all ages and interests. Proceeds from the sale provide university and college scholarships for women and girls, and support local projects that promote STEM education for middle school girls. They also provide leadership training for high school girls and offer workshop training in salary negotiations for college students and women returning to the work force. Local members of AAUW run and staff the Used Book Sale. Donations of books are welcome and guidelines for making tax deductible donations can be found on the groupโ€™s website.

On September 24, the community is also invited to join AAUW members for a 50 Year Celebration at Old First Church. The afternoon fundraising event will include a wine and cheese party highlighted by a presentation by AAUW member and local performance artist Lorraine Stone. She will share the story of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. For more information about AAUW, the Used Book Sale, and the 50 Year Celebration, visit or call (732) 933-4855.

The Northern Monmouth County Branch of AAUW has been making a difference in the community for 90 years and welcomes new members to join them in advancing equity for women and girls. Membership is open to any graduate holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
