77-Year-Old Woman Drives Vehicle into Manasquan River

A 77-year-old woman drove into the Manasquan River while she was driving her vehicle Sunday night. She has been pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The fatal incident occurred near Route 35 in Brielle. At approximately 9:30 pm Sunday, emergency personnel rushed to the scene after receiving a report of a sport utility vehicle that had driven into the river. After plunging into the water, it wound up underneath the Route 35 Bridge.

It has been confirmed that there was no one else in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The woman was reportedly a Wall Township resident.

According to NJ.com, security footage had captured part of the incident, but there was no evidence that it was a suicide attempt or that foul play occurred.

Officials have not released the name of the victim.
