$25K Raised to Train Service Dog for Local Veteran

This September, The Journal will be releasing its first-ever Pet Guide. Our pets are part of the family, and dogs are among the most intelligent species. With that, we would like to recognize members from Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands for their kind work this summer. Members from the club honored the nation’s veterans on June 26 by hosting a charity golf tournament. The event raised $25,000 which the members donated to cover the cost of training a service dog for a veteran in need.

After service, unfortunately many veterans suffer from post traumatic stress disorder and may require a comfort animal. These four-legged assistants may stand in a position which increases a veteran’s personal space, interrupt nightmares or panic attacks, call for help or get attention in times of distress, or simply serve as a source of familiarity and comfort throughout the day.
