2017 Atlantic Highlands Elementary Contest Winners

Eighteen pupils at the Atlantic Highlands Elementary School have been cited for their artistry with prizes won in the annual borough Shade Tree Commission poster contest.

The contest was a part of the participation by the commission in National Arbor Day festivities.

The prizes were distributed by Louise I. Donoghue, commission chairman, and school principal Janet Walling. at the year-end AHES awards assembly. Prizes given by grade to students were $10 gift certificates for first place, $5 certificates for second place and a certificate for honorable mention informing them that a tree would be planted in their honor in a national forest.

A special certificate of thanks was awarded to art teacher Caroline Northrop for her guidance to the pupils.

Each of the winning posters will be on display at the public library in Borough Hall on First avenue.

Earlier this year, the Shade Tree Commission planted three trees along First avenue in the municipal harbor in an effort co-financed by the commission and the Hesse Corporation. Additionally, Mrs. Donoghue spoke to a group of youngsters about trees in a program in the library.
